Construction

We specialize in helping clients find solutions at sites with complex environmental issues. If contamination is the problem, we can help you clean it up and find state and federal funding to support the effort.

From contamination to underground tanks to stormwater overflows, we have the expertise to navigate regulations and design and construct sustainable and strategic solutions that integrate with end uses. We bring a deep bench of experts in air quality, hazardous materials, environmental science, communications, planning and design, and engineering and construction management so you don’t have to find, hire, and manage these experts on your own.

Environmental Site Assessments and Hazardous Building Material Assessments

You want to have confidence in your due diligence. MFA has conducted hundreds of Phase I and Phase II environmental site assessments and hazardous building materials assessments at sites from vacant properties and gas stations to complex industrial, timberland, and land sites. We also offer human and ecological risk assessments for current and future uses. Our assessment work is completed consistent with federal and state standards, and our in-depth knowledge of those standards enables us to help clients communicate with regulators on complex issues.

Grant Funding

MFA staff monitor state and federal grants and funding sources in the Pacific Northwest. We conduct initial research to produce a matrix of options targeted to your goals, activities, and timelines. We then help our clients submit compelling grant applications that persuade grantors to fund projects.

Construction Management and Oversight

Because we offer a well-integrated suite of services, you don’t need to hire a dozen different firms to get your project done. We integrate planning, permitting, GIS, engineering, sustainable design and development, and construction management and oversight all under one roof.

Environmental, and Health and Safety Compliance

Our experts can help you establish and maintain compliance with environmental and health and safety regulations, including permitting, development of health and safety plans, industrial hygiene services, oversight, auditing, and regulatory support. Our extensive experience with air, water, waste, and worker safety requirements allows you to resolve compliance issues quickly so you can focus on your business.

Facility Siting

Our approach to facility siting encompasses land use planning and economics, strategic real estate assessment, GIS, data analytics and visualization, and the needs of the community. We have well-developed data tools and maps for creating a strategic approach to siting a facility. If your permit application or funding program requires an analysis and understanding of your project’s environmental justice implications, our communications team can develop an engagement plan and meaningfully engage nearby communities.

Engineering and Permitting

We are small enough to give your project the attention it deserves and large enough to offer the full spectrum of planning, permitting, and engineering services. We excel at the early identification of issues and opportunities, and our strong relationships with teaming partners and permitting agencies help us provide you with cost-effective design, efficient permit approval, and faster results.

Brownfield Development Planning

We founded our company on accurately characterizing and efficiently cleaning up contaminated sites. We continue to help hundreds of owners and potential buyers turn properties from black box mysteries to known sites ready for purchase or strategic cleanups focused on reuse. We put your vision at the front of our approach to ensure that your project earns community and regulator support and that your site is well-positioned for new uses.

Communications Outreach, Community Needs Assessments

Drawing from deep experience engaging stakeholders as varied as elected officials and underserved communities, our communications specialists can provide communications plans that support your project’s success. We plan open houses and distribute flyers to satisfy construction permit outreach requirements and offer strategic communications advice for sensitive projects. During construction, our communications team can engage neighbors to identify and resolve issues before they jeopardize the schedule.
