Drip Pad Certification

MFA experts perform drip pad inspection and certification for our wood products clients. Our engineers can provide suggestions for improvements and repairs and certify adherence to regulations. We know we’re doing our job when your staff are freed up to do theirs.

Resource Conservation and Recovery Act Compliance

Our engineers help facilities manage and control solid and hazardous wastes through stockpiling and storage, characterization, treatment, transportation, and disposal at an appropriate landfill. We’ve designed and implemented low-risk, cost-effective cleanups tailored to the specific needs of wood preservers.

Phase I/Phase II Environmental Site Assessments

No surprises, on time and on budget. You want confidence that your due diligence, including the bona fide prospective purchaser and innocent purchaser defense, is done correctly. MFA has conducted hundreds of Phase I and Phase II environmental site assessments (ESAs) at a wide range of sites, from vacant properties and gas stations to complex industrial sites, timberlands, and landfills. We conduct all Phase I ESAs consistent with the requirements of ASTM International’s Standard Practice for Environmental Site Assessments. Our environmental scientists can also conduct risk assessments for human and ecological receptors.

Remedial Investigation and Feasibility Study

Every site has its own history. Cleanups, whether on land or under the water, require an approach that fits the site. MFA’s approach to characterizing soil and sediment is customized to provide reliable data and information that fits the cleanup requirements and leads to project success. We’ve helped hundreds of organizations reduce risk, limit liability, and get back to their core business.

Landfill Closure

You want to clean up your site and be done. We get it. You want to manage risk, make sure the process is controlled, and focus on your business objectives. We begin with the end in mind and develop strategies and tactics that get results. Our experts can help you determine whether there is any beneficial reuse for your solid waste or for the successfully closed landfill. From capping soil to installing membrane liners and venting systems, we can design, construct, and monitor closed landfills.

Industrial Hygiene and Health and Safety Compliance

You need to protect your people and your business. Compliance isn’t about paperwork, it’s about people. We can help you comply with regulations, reduce your risk, and find practical strategies that lead to solutions. Workplace safety starts with understanding the hazards at a facility and developing a plan that fits. We have helped other wood preservers and producers develop and manage programs to meet OSHA requirements for:

  • Process safety management and risk management plans
  • Site-specific health and safety plans
  • Emergency planning and response
  • Hazard communication
  • Machine guarding
  • Respiratory protection
  • Personal protective equipment
  • Lockout/tagout
  • Confined-space entry
  • Fall protection
  • Electrical safety
  • Hot work

Facility Demolition and Remediation

Building demolition can be almost as high-stakes as construction, with asbestos, lead-based paint, and other materials that could complicate the path forward. MFA’s team of hazardous materials experts have conducted surveys on properties ranging from a multistory former paper mill to a half-million-square-foot former hospital complex. We will inventory hazardous materials in a characterization report, then draft a materials management plan to safely and efficiently handle, remove, and contain material to be hauled off site to a disposal facility. We know that wasted space is wasted potential, so we specialize in efficiently and safely getting your site ready for its next step.
