Dan is a life-long environmental and outdoor enthusiast. He completed graduate-level environmental academic training in his twenties and his professional career has focused on working in the nexus where environmental sciences, regulatory requirements, and the realities of manufacturing intersect and present complex challenges. His positions in the industrial sector have included on-site assignments at an arctic petroleum production complex, steel foundries, a major microchip manufacturer, and an aluminum smelter. As a consultant, Dan has assisted a wide range of commercial and industrial clients with environmental support related to water and air quality, hazardous and solid waste, hazardous materials management, and community right-to-know.

Dan has enjoyed extensive recreational activities across the globe. He took a year off to independently travel around the world, visiting 29 countries in 11 months. While on that trip he hiked the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in Peru, hiked and canoed in the Amazon River basin, climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, traveled by train across Russia and Mongolia, bungee jumped over a river gorge in New Zealand, and visited various UNESCO World Heritage sites.

What was your first job? Does it relate to what you're doing now?

My first real job was working on a water well drilling rig for three summers while going to college. It was physically demanding and potentially dangerous work, but I learned a lot about subsurface soils and groundwater. My first full-time job after graduating was working with soils and groundwater at contaminated sites.
