Calen currently lives in northern Idaho, and primarily works in the Bunker Hill Mining and Metallurgical Complex Superfund Site where he leads site characterization investigations at former mine and millsites. He enjoys spending as much time as possible in the outdoors and when not at work can be found skiing, backpacking, mountain biking, hunting, or fishing. Calen has also been known to grow super-hot peppers in his home garden and experiment with fiery hot sauce concoctions that top the Scoville scale. Calen and his wife recently welcomed their first child into the world and cherish opportunities where they can share their love of the outdoors with her.

A favorite project and why?

I am conducting an ongoing investigation on a stretch of the Coeur d’Alene River evaluating riverbank metals concentrations and erosion rates. It doesn’t get any better than floating along a beautiful stretch of scenic river and watching salmon spawn below.
